Wheelchair
basketball is very similar to able bodied basketball with the
only major variation being the difference in the traveling rule.
Able bodied basketball's traveling rule is taking too many steps
without dribbling the ball. Since there is no walking in wheelchair
basketball, their version of the traveling rule is pushing the
wheels more than two times without dribbling. Some other differences
in the rules are there are ten more seconds added to the shot
clock as well as four seconds in the key rather than the three
seconds able bodied players have.
Depending
on the level of skill and/or disability the game can be modified
by either lowering the hoop or using a 55 gallon trash can as
a basket. For those who cannot throw a basketball very far a different,
lighter ball can be used such as a rubber dodge ball or a gator
ball. |
